In a surprising development, Union Home Minister Amit Shah has been appointed as the observer for the BJP’s legislative party meeting in Haryana. This unusual move reflects internal challenges within the party, particularly in finalising the leader of the legislative assembly. Haryana, which recently concluded its assembly elections, witnessed the BJP forming the government for the third time with a full majority. The leadership selection will take place a day before the swearing-in ceremony, which is scheduled for October 17.
Amit Shah Observer In Any State For First Time
This marks the first occasion that Amit Shah, who is widely regarded as the party’s chief strategist, is being sent as an observer to any state. Given that Haryana shares its borders with Delhi, the situation has raised many eyebrows within political circles.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi entrusted Shah with the task of resolving leadership disputes, signalling the seriousness of the issue. Alongside Shah, Madhya Pradesh leader Mohan Yadav has been appointed as a co-observer for the legislative meeting.
Anil Vij And Rao Inderjit Singh: The Contenders For Chief Minister
The BJP faces a tricky situation, with two senior leaders—former state Home Minister Anil Vij and Union Minister of State Rao Inderjit Singh—expressing their ambitions for the Chief Minister's post. Despite the pre-election announcement of Naib Singh Saini as the next Chief Minister, Vij’s open assertion of his claim has created fresh challenges for the party.
Initially, Vij’s declaration was seen as a tactic to boost electoral prospects. However, even after the election results, Vij has not backed down, forcing the party leadership to take his claim seriously. Vij was elected for the seventh time from Ambala Cantonment, further solidifying his bid.
Adding to the BJP’s leadership dilemma, Rao Inderjit Singh, a key player from the Ahirwal region, has also expressed his wish to become the Chief Minister. His daughter Aarti Rao won the election from Ateli this time, and Singh is believed to be pushing for her inclusion in the state cabinet.
The Ahirwal region played a crucial role in the BJP’s electoral success, with the party winning 10 out of 11 seats in this belt. Rao’s influence in southern Haryana is undeniable, especially with the party winning 8 seats from the region in 2019 and increasing that tally to 10 this time.
