Pakistan's former MP Abdul Rehman Khan Kanju visited the family of Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) leader Abhay Chautala in Haryana and participated in an event honouring the party's two MLAs. Abdul Rehman Khan Khanju, who served as the minister of state in Pakistan’s Abbasi cabinet, attended the celebration, which also marked Diwali festivities, which took place in Sirsa district’s Chautala village on Thursday evening.
INLD president and former Haryana Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala was present at the event, along with newly elected MLAs Arjun Chautala and Aditya Devi Lal, who won from Rania and Dabwali constituencies in the recently concluded 2024 Haryana assembly elections. Expressing gratitude, Abhay Chautala acknowledged the former Pakistani legislator Abdul Rehman Khan Kanju’s presence, describing it as a "special occasion" enriched by their guest from Pakistan.
Abdul Rehman Kanju, hailing from Lodhran in Pakistan, congratulated Aditya and Arjun on their electoral victories. He highlighted his close ties with the Chautala family, stating, "We may live across the border, but Abhay and O P Chautala have always stood by us." He praised Abhay Chautala, referring to him as "Haryana's Sher (lion)" and recalled watching his powerful speeches in the Haryana Assembly on YouTube.
Addressing the gathering, Kanju spoke about Diwali, calling it a festival that dispels darkness and fosters joy and expressed a wish for happiness for people on both sides of the border. Om Prakash Chautala noted Kanju’s continuous support for stronger India-Pakistan relations.
