What Is The Case Against Builders?

The Residents Welfare Association had filed a public interest litigation in the Punjab and Haryana High Court in 2021 regarding illegal constructions in various areas of DLF Phases one to five. The petitioners said that the illegal constructions have lowered the quality of life in the city and urged the court to order the demolition of such buildings.

The petitioners demanded to demolish the illegally constructed multi-story buildings and also requested the court to cancel the illegally issued occupation certificates. They also demanded that criminal cases should be registered against the concerned building owners.

Several of the reports suggested that these constructions cannot be legalised as they violate the zoning rules and Haryana Building Code 2017. The petitioners stated that the builders have violated several serious laws and the action against them is unavoidable. The court has asked the authorities to take solid action within two months, adding that a detailed report must be submitted on the upcoming April 19.
