Haryana-Punjab Water Dispute: In the water dispute between Haryana and Punjab, Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini and his counterpart Bhagwant Mann engaged in barbs, which stooped to personal attacks. The bitterness between the two CMs increased so much that despite being present at a government program, Saini and Mann did not shake hands. During the Nasha Mukt Chandigarh campaign, the duo participated in the Padyatra program with both the Governors, but there was no conversation between them. They are finding faults in each other on their respective platforms and blaming each other over ongoing water share issue.

Haryana Is Mann's Sasural: Saini

Saini had said in a light-hearted manner that Mann is Haryana's relative (son-in-law). His wife hails from Pehwa area of Kurukshetra district of Haryana and therefore, he should give water to Haryana on the basis of relationship, he added.

Mann Responds With A Popular Saying

Mann responded to Saini's request by a popular saying that Haryana is a state that maintains relationships and social values. Saini probably does not know that even the water of daughter's house (daughter-in-law's house) is not drunk and he is asking for a canal from us, he retorted in a similar fashion.

Haryana CM Slams Mann Govt For 'Playing Politics' Over Water

Saini on Saturday claimed his state was demanding water in the same quantity and ratio as earlier and slammed the AAP-led Punjab government for playing politics over the water-sharing issue.

Haryana chief minister held an all-party meeting to discuss the row over Punjab refusing to release more water to the BJP-ruled neighbouring state.

" I want to tell Mann sahib (Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann) that this water doesn't belong to Punjab only but to the whole country...On 23rd April, Bhakra Beas Management Board decided to give 8,500 cusec water to Haryana, but the Mann govt did not honour this decision. On 30th April, in the BBMB meeting, a resolution was passed to implement the 23rd April decision. 12.55 MAF water is allotted to Haryana against 10.67 MAF given to the state...Punjab is using more than its share of water. Haryana is getting 17% less water than originally allocated to it...At least don't do politics on water meant for drinking purposes...Today, in Haryana, we are facing issues related to drinking water," Saini said after the all-party meet.
