A significant disaster was averted at the North Portal of the Atal Tunnel in Rohtang after three avalanches struck the area. At the time of the snowslide, four vehicles were traveling from Keylong toward Manali. After a brief halt, all vehicles managed to pass through safely and continue their journey toward Manali.

Official Statement

Sissu Police Station In-charge, Mukesh Thakur, confirmed the occurrence of the avalanches near the Atal Tunnel. He stated that there were no reports of any loss of life or property damage. Following the incident, all stranded vehicles were able to move toward Manali safely.

He further noted that the Lahaul Valley has been experiencing continuous snowfall for the past three days, significantly increasing the risk of further avalanches. He urged the public to travel only in case of emergencies and to remain indoors until the weather clears.

An official from the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) warned that the risk of avalanches remains high at various points along the Manali-Keylong route, specifically between Solang Nala and Keylong. Commuters are advised to stay alert and travel with extreme caution.
