Himachal Pradesh: After a day of widespread snowfall, gusty winds, and rain, Himachal Pradesh shivered under an intense cold wave amid overcast conditions on Saturday. Snowfall in the hill state blocked traffic on more than 680 roads, including two national highways. As a result, heavy rainfall and snowfall are expected in many parts of the state from January 26 to 28.
According to the IMD, heavy snowfall is very likely in the higher reaches of the state on January 25. A yellow warning for dense fog and cold wave conditions has been issued for Kangra, Mandi, Solan, Una, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, and Sirmour for Sunday.
The IMD also forecast heavy snowfall and rain in the state from January 26 to 28.
Of the 685 roads in the state blocked due to snowfall, the highest number 292 were in the tribal district of Lahaul and Spiti. Additionally, 132 roads were blocked in Chamba, 126 in Mandi, 79 in Kullu, 29 in Sirmour, 20 in Kinnaur, nine in Kullu, four in Kangra, two in Una, and one in Solan district.
Moreover, 5,775 transformers were affected by the snowfall, leaving thousands of households without electricity. The Electricity Board has been instructed to maintain emergency teams for the quick restoration of power supply in case of disruptions. Additionally, power backup must be ensured for essential services.
The Disaster Management Cell has issued directives for all concerned departments and district administrations to remain on high alert. In an order by the Additional Chief Secretary (Revenue), all district disaster management authorities have been instructed to keep the district emergency operation centers active 24/7.
The Public Works Department has been directed to deploy machinery, such as JCBs and snow-cutters, at strategic locations to ensure the quick restoration of roads.

The administration has appealed to the general public and tourists to heed weather warnings and avoid unnecessary travel.
