Shimla-Kalka National Highway (NH)-5 near Chakki Mor has been closed again after a landslide that occurred late Thursday night in Himachal Pradesh's Solan district.

It has been raining nonstop since last night, causing debris to fall from the hill on a regular basis. For two days, the movement of small and large vehicles was made smoother from here, but traffic was once again disrupted.

Shiv Pratap Shukla, the governor of Himachal Pradesh, inspected the damage caused by a massive landslide on National Highway (NH)-5 near Chakki Morh in Solan district on Thursday, and he directed the district administration and the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to ensure smooth traffic flow in light of the apple season.

He went on to say that NH-5 is necessary for critical daily supplies and that it is the shortest way for tourists to visit Shimla and other destinations. He stated that natural disasters had caused massive devastation in several areas of Himachal, with landslides and cloudbursts severely disrupting daily life.

Manmohan Sharma, Deputy Commissioner of Solan, reported that the projected loss due to the unprecedented rains in Solan district was around Rs 526 crore.

He described the assistance being provided to the impacted on the state government's orders, along with additional steps being taken to repair the roads and return life to normal.

A K Dahiya, Project Director of NHAI, described the harm done to NH-5 as a result of landslides. He estimated that the NH at Chakki Morh would require complete repair in 30 to 45 days.

The popular Chandigarh-Shimla national highway was shut down in the early hours of August 2 when an area of the road collapsed in a landslide near Parwanoo.
