Himachal Pradesh Weather Update: Continuous rainfall in Himachal Pradesh has led to a heavy landslide on the Paonta Sahib-Shillai-Gumma National Highway 707 in the Sirmaur district. The officials stated that several vehicles got stranded in the early hours of Sunday due to the landslide, causing inconveniences to the locals and tourists. Earlier on Saturday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) stated that several districts of Himachal Pradesh are likely to witness light to heavy rainfall for the next few more days. The weather department advised the residents to follow the guidelines and limit their outings to avoid any inconveniences.

The vehicular movement on the Paonta Sahib-Shillai-Gumma National Highway has been affected severely for the past few months due to the construction of Himachal Pradesh's first green corridor. The officials stated that dozens of roads in the Sirmaur district have been affected in the past few weeks due to continuous rainfall. Apart from this, the construction work on the highway has also affected the traffic in the region. Several routes are likely to be affected for a few more days, as the weather department has forecast heavy rainfall.

While providing details, the officials stated that huge rocks and heavy debris fell on the road from the hill during the landslides. They further stated that several heavy vehicles are stuck on the route due to the landslides, adding that the authority has been trying to remove the debris from the route. The officials informed that trucks carrying apples from Shimla and vegetables from Shillai, along with buses carrying passengers, are waiting for the road to be restored.

Kafota SDM OP Thakur stated that instructions have been given to the firms to restore the highway. He further stated that the machines have been deployed to clear the road, adding that the highway will be restored soon.
