Mandi landslide: At least six people died, four of the same family, after a landslide hit Sundernagar in Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi district.The rescue operations team discovered bodies under the rubble of the house. Search operations are still underway with the Indian Army, NDRF, and SDRF on the ground.
A landslide struck two houses in Sundernagar on Tuesday. Three bodies were recovered yesterday, and the death toll rose to six today after rescuers found three more during the search operation.
Mandi DC told ANI on Tuesday, “A landslide occurred late in the evening in Sundernagar, and two houses fell prey to it. In one house, there were four people, out of which two- one woman and one child were pulled out. They were taken to the hospital but could not survive. In the second house, one body has been recovered."
“We are trying to recover two missing people from the first house. All teams are deployed and are working. Another person who was in his car also came in contact with the landslide, and efforts are on to look for him also," he added.
15 Houses Evacuated In Ner Gharwarsra Panchayat Of Jogindernagar
At least 15 houses were evacuated in Ner Gharwarsra Panchayat of Jogindernagar, about 80 km from Mandi, after a landslide struck the area, police said on Wednesday. Residents were moved to safety as a precaution amid ongoing minor landslides, while the local administration continues to monitor the situation.
"The evacuation was carried out due to continuous light landslides in the region, in order to prevent any untoward incident. So far, no loss of life or major damage had been reported," said Sakini Kapoor, Station House Officer (SHO), Jogindernagar.
Flood, Landslides And Heavy Rainfall Across India
1. Torrential monsoon rains and flooding have severely affected northern Indian states, including Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, and Uttarakhand.
2. Continuous downpours over the past few weeks have triggered landslides, flash floods, and waterlogging.
3. The calamity has claimed numerous lives, displaced thousands, and caused large-scale damage to infrastructure, agriculture, and livelihoods.
4. Swollen rivers have crossed danger levels, and several roads remain blocked.
5. Rescue and relief efforts are being carried out by central and state authorities with support from the Indian Army, Air Force, Navy, NDRF, and SDRF.
6. In Himachal Pradesh alone, 340 people have died since June 20, including 182 from rain-related incidents such as landslides, floods, drowning, and house collapses, and 158 from road accidents, as per the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA).
