With the announcement of Rekha Gupta as Delhi’s Chief Minister, Congress leader Alka Lamba extended her congratulations, reminiscing about their early days in student politics. Lamba, who recently contested against AAP’s Atishi in the Kalkaji Assembly seat, took to social media to share her best wishes for Gupta.

A Throwback to 1995

Posting an old photograph on platform X, Lamba wrote, “This memorable photo from 1995—when Rekha Gupta and I took the oath together."

She recalled how she had won the position of Delhi University Students' Union (DUSU) President from NSUI, while Rekha Gupta secured the role of General Secretary from ABVP. "Congratulations and best wishes to Rekha Gupta," she added in Hindi.

Further in her post, she expressed hope for Delhi under Gupta’s leadership, stating, “Delhi now has its fourth female Chief Minister. We, the people of Delhi, hope for a cleaner Yamuna and safer daughters."

Alka Lamba Reflects on Rekha Gupta’s Political Growth

Speaking to PTI, Lamba shared her thoughts on Gupta’s journey. “When the BJP declared Rekha Ji as CM, I went back 30 years, recalling the day we took our oaths together. I was elected DUSU President from NSUI, and she won the Secretary seat. It’s a proud moment to see her rise to this position.”

Lamba and Gupta were both key figures in Delhi University’s student politics in 1995, marking the beginning of their political careers.

Rekha Gupta recently won the Shalimar Bagh Assembly seat in the February 5 elections, securing a victory over AAP’s Bandana Kumari by more than 29,000 votes. Now, she is set to be sworn in as Delhi’s fourth woman Chief Minister on Thursday.
