Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) sent messages to its customers, alerting them about a new scam where cybercriminals are contacting IGL customers via messages or calls, claiming that their gas connection will be cut off if their bill is not updated. IGL has requested its customers not to entertain such messages and calls, advising them to pay bills only through IGL-authorised channels.
What Is IGL Scam?
Cybercriminals, who previously targeted people with messages and calls about impending power cuts if electricity bills weren't updated, have now switched their focus to gas connections.
The scammers usually message the IGL customers typically stating, "Dear consumer, your gas connection bill has not been updated. Your gas connection will be cut off. For more information, call the given number: 9xxxxx." Alternatively, the scammers call from an unknown number, pretending to be an IGL official and pressuring the customer to make an immediate online payment to avoid disconnection.
In response to this new scam, IGL is sending messages to its customers advising them to stay alert to avoid such scams. “It has come to our notice that fraudulent messages are being sent by certain cyber fraudsters, wherein they are threatening to cut off the gas supply by tonight as the customer's previous month's bill was not updated. They are also asking to call an IGL officer on the numbers provided in such fraudulent messages. Please do not entertain such messages and do not call on the numbers provided therein. Also, never pay through links provided in such messages or through cash. Pay your bills through IGL authorised channels only,” IGL advised its customers in a recent message.
