Independence Day Celebration In Delhi: To provide strong security for the Independence Day celebrations in the city, the Delhi Police got hold of 700 CCTV cameras with facial recognition technology, authorities said on Thursday. They claimed that to monitor VVIP movements and closely monitor any suspicious actions, these cameras would be deployed in and around the north and central districts, especially the Red Fort, from which Prime Minister Narendra Modi will make his Independence Day address.
The central district will receive 354 Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras, according to authorities, while the north area will receive 346 cameras.
“These cameras will have pan-tilt-zoom features with high resolutions which will allow police to identify anyone from a distance. These cameras will be installed in and around the fort,” a senior police officer said.
The official added that around 10,000 security guards would be stationed at the Mughal-era fort when Modi addresses the country and that the cameras equipped with AI-based facial recognition and video analytic technologies will guarantee impenetrable protection.

Until the program is finished, the area around the Red Fort will be marked as a "no kite flying zone." According to authorities, personnel equipped with the required tools would be stationed at key places to intercept kites.
“Of the 700 cameras, 40 will be used for AI-based facial recognition, 15 for detecting intrusions, 10 each for reading registration plates of vehicles and counting people and five for detecting abandoned objects while all the other cameras will be used for audio detection,” the officer said.
Police said that although various anti-terror measures, such as the installation of air defense cannons, are being undertaken, anti-drone devices will be placed at the Red Fort during the event.
According to one officer, police will also utilise a smartphone application to confirm attendees' identities at the Red Fort event. According to him, the prime minister and other VVIP visitors would also be protected by snipers, special SWAT commandos, kite catchers, and sharpshooters stationed at key places.
