Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday stressed that India does not believe in "taken-for-granted" relations, and the world is realising that trust and reliability. The Prime Minister's remark came amid the tense ties between India and Canada. Recently, New Delhi recalled six of its diplomats including the high commissioner, and expelled the same number of Canadian envoys.

In his speech at the NDTV World Summit, PM Modi did not directly mention the incidents related to Canada. The relationship between the two countries has deteriorated following Canada’s claims that India was involved in the killing of a Canadian citizen who was a radical Khalistani activist. India, meanwhile has refuted all such claims and stressed that Canada had been unable to provide any evidence to back its claim.

"India does not form taken-for-granted relations. Our relations are grounded in trust and reliability. The world is also realising this. India is a country whose progress causes happiness in the world," PM Modi said.
