Arvind Kejriwal Arrest: Following the comments by the US, Germany and the United Nations on the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in connection with the money laundering case linked to an alleged liquor policy scam, Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar said India does not need lessons from anyone on rule of law. His remarks come against the backdrop of the Aam Aadmi Party's protest rally taking place on Sunday against the purported abuse of central agencies by the ruling BJP.

"India is a democracy with a robust judicial system. This can't be compromised by any individual or any group. India does not need lessons from anyone on the rule of law," VP Dhankar said in an event organised by the Bar association.

Amid ongoing row over Kejriwal's arrest, India called in the deputy chief of mission from Germany and a senior US ambassador. Rumours were circulating that an official from the US State Department stated that Washington supported Kejriwal's legal team in a fast, fair, and transparent manner. On March 23, India strongly objected to Germany’s foreign ministry’s remarks on the arrest of the Delhi chief minister.

The Vice President also took a swipe at the opposition, saying those who thought they were beyond the system are now being held accountable. "Some people thought we are above the law, immune from the law. That has been demolished… those who thought are beyond the law, the law is after them," Dhankhar said.

While speaking at an event held at the Indian Institute of Public Administration (IIPA), the vice president stated that the law is holding them responsible. "But what do we see — the moment law takes its course, they take to the streets, high decibel debates, camouflaging culpability of the worst nature by human rights. This is happening under our nose," he said as quoted by news agency PTI.
