India-Pakistan Ceasefire: India on Saturday announced that it has agreed to an immediate ceasefire with Pakistan, days after continuous military confrontations between the two neighbouring nations. According to Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, Pakistan's Directors General of Military Operations (DGMO) called Indian DGMO today and both agreed to stop all firing and military action on land and in the air and sea with immediate effect.

However, Misri clarified that there is no decision to hold talks on any other issue at any other place. The two DGMOs will speak to each other again on May 12, Misri added. The Ministry of External Affairs also clarified that India has not changed its stance on the Indus Waters Treaty and said that it will remain in abeyance.

The 1960 treaty regulates the sharing of water from the Indus River and its tributaries between India and Pakistan. India pulled out of it last month after a deadly attack on tourists by a Pakistan-based terrorist group in Kashmir's Pahalgam, resulting in the death of 26 people.

Reacting to the ceasefire, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar asserted that India will continue its "firm and uncompromising" stance against cross-border terrorism. "India and Pakistan have today worked out an understanding on the stoppage of firing and military action. India has consistently maintained a firm and uncompromising stance against terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. It will continue to do so," he said in a post on X.

The confirmation from India came after US President Donald Trump announced that India and Pakistan had agreed to a "full and immediate" ceasefire after talks mediated by the US.

"After a long night of talks mediated by the United States, I am pleased to announce that India and Pakistan have agreed to a FULL AND IMMEDIATE CEASEFIRE. Congratulations to both Countries on using Common Sense and Great Intelligence," he said in a post on Truth Social.

However, Indian officials, as reported by ANI, maintained that the ceasefire was a direct bilateral arrangement between India and Pakistan, contradicting Trump's assertion of US mediation. The understanding was reportedly reached without any third-party involvement.

The announcement came days after India carried out Operation Sindoor, striking nine terror infrastructures in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied-Kashmir to avenge the Pahalgam attack. Since the operation, Pakistan has targeted various Indian military installations without success.
