In response to the growing global threat of Ebola, the Airport Health Organisation (APHO) has significantly tightened security at all international airports in India. According to the APHO, all passengers arriving from abroad are now being thoroughly screened.

While this screening was previously limited to passengers arriving from Africa or affected countries, the rules have now been changed to make it mandatory for all international flights. Every passenger arriving in India from anywhere in the world will now be required to undergo this strict security check.

Thermal Screening, Self-Declaration Mandatory

Under the new protocol, all passengers disembarking from international flights are being subjected to thermal screening, which automatically measures body temperature (fever). Additionally, a self-declaration form is mandatory for every passenger.

This form requires travellers to provide personal details and contact information, as well as a detailed travel history for the past 21 days. Current health symptoms (such as fever, extreme weakness, vomiting, or body aches) must also be reported.

Isolation In RML Hospital After Suspect Found

APHO officials clarified that if a passenger's temperature is found to be elevated during thermal screening or if they confirm any of the symptoms in the declaration form, they will be immediately isolated at the airport. Such suspected passengers will be sent to a special isolation center at RML Hospital under specific medical protocols.

Detailed examination of patients and sample testing will be done there, so that any possible spread of infection within the country can be completely stopped in time.

A special meeting was recently held, attended by APHO officials, to review preparedness and respond to the Ebola threat. Representatives from DIAL, CISF, the Bureau of Immigration, Customs, all airlines, and ground handling agencies participated in the meeting. Everyone was advised to remain vigilant in accordance with the Ministry of Health's directives.

Special arrangements have been made at the airport's international arrivals area to ensure passenger safety and proper screening. Thermal scanning has been made mandatory for all arriving passengers. Special queue barriers have been installed to ensure that no passenger can exit without being screened.

Additionally, a dedicated route has been established to safely evacuate and transport passengers who exhibit suspicious symptoms during screening to the hospital. Based on the key points decided in the meeting, they have been shared with all airlines so they can ensure passenger safety and strict adherence to safety rules during flight.
