India-Pakistan news: The Indian Army launched 'Operation Sindoor' in the wee hours of Wednesday, May 7, carrying out missile strikes against terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The Union Ministry of Defence said the Army targeted terrorist infrastructure from where attacks against India were planned and directed. These strikes came as India's response to the terror attack which took place in Pahalgam on April 22 and led to the killing of 26 people.

In an official statement on 'Operation Sindoor', the Defence Ministry said nine terror sites were targeted. The missile strikes were carried out in Kotli, Bahwalpur and Muzaffarabad of Pakistan, according a report by Dawn.

"These steps come in the wake of the barbaric Pahalgam terrorist attack in which 25 Indians and one Nepali citizen were murdered. We are living up to the commitment that those responsible for this attack will be held accountable. There will be detailed briefing on 'OPERATION SINDOOR’, later today," the Defence Ministry said.

The Indian Army hailed the strike on terrorists in PoK as it posted on X, "Justice Served. Jai Hind."

Soon after the strike, the Indian air defence units were also activated along the India-Pakistan border to tackle any eventuality.

Pakistan meanwhile violated the Ceasefire Agreement by firing artillery in Jammu and Kashmir's Bhimber Gali area, just hours after India carried out the precision strikes. The Indian Army is responding "appropriately in a calibrated manner", officials said.

In a post on X, the Additional Directorate General of Public Information (ADG PI) stated: "Pakistan again violates the Ceasefire Agreement by firing artillery in Bhimber Gali in the Poonch-Rajouri area. Indian Army is responding appropriately in a calibrated manner."
