The Railways has taken another step toward encouraging digital ticket booking. Passengers will now receive a three per cent discount on general ticket purchases through the RailOne app. This benefit will not be limited to a single payment method, but will be available for payments made through all digital modes, including UPI, debit cards, credit cards, net banking, and non-banking apps.
This new system will be implemented from January 14. The Railways is implementing this facility on a pilot basis until July 14. If the pilot project is successful, it is planned to be fully implemented.
Until now, the 3 per cent cashback benefit was available only for booking unreserved tickets through the RailOne app using R-Wallet. To further expand digital payments, the Railways has decided to extend this benefit to all digital payment modes.
Under the new system, if a passenger makes payment through any digital medium while purchasing a ticket from the Railvan app, he will get a direct discount of 3 percent on the travel fare.
The Railways believes this will provide relief to daily commuters and those traveling on shorter routes. Digital ticket booking will not only save on ticket costs but also reduce congestion at counters.
This discount will not be given as a cashback, but as a direct reduction in the ticket price. However, this feature will currently be limited to the RailOne app only and will not be applicable on any other platform.
How To Avail Discount?
-Download the RailOne app to your mobile device and log in with your IRCTC or UTS ID.
-Select the Unreserved or UTS ticket option on the home screen.
-Then, select your starting and destination stations.
-After entering the ticket type, class, and passenger details, tap Book Ticket.
-Use any digital payment option for payment.
-A digital ticket with a QR code will be generated upon completion of the booking.
