The Indian Railway Ministry has successfully conducted an electric engine trial from Sangaldan to Reasi. The trial also involved crossing the highest steel arch rail bridge in the world, Chenab. The much-awaited world's highest railway bridge, which is reportedly 35 metres taller than Paris’ Eiffel Tower, spans the Chenab River at a height of 359 metres. 

Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, Union Minister of Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw wrote, "1st trial train has successfully run from Sangaldan to Reasi, including crossing the Chenab Bridge. All construction works for the USBRL are nearly finished, with only tunnel No.1 remaining partially incomplete."

Commissioner of Railways Safety (CRS) D C Deshwal will inspect the 46-kilometer Sangaldan-Reasi stretch over two days as the ministry nears completion of its ambitious project. Northern Railway's Chief Public Relations Officer Deepak Kumar has scheduled the inspection for June 27 and 28. Kumar said that all necessary activities will be performed in time for the CRS inspection.

Taking to X, formerly Twitter, Union Minister Jitendra Singh announced, "The train service from #Ramban (Sangaldan) to #Reasi via the world's highest railway bridge built on river Chenab to begin soon. The #Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (#USBRL) project will be completed by year-end."

All About World’s Highest Railway Bridge

The Chenab railway bridge estimated to cost Rs 1,400 crore connects Katra and Banihal and has passed all required inspections and is almost complete. It is reportedly a part of the Rs 35,000 crore Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Railway Link (USBRL) dream project and is situated between Bakkal and Kauri in the Reasi district.

The project was approved in the year 2003 but was delayed shortly due to fears of safety and stability. Now, the people of Jammu and Kashmir will get the bridge after almost two decades.
