Indian Railways Price Hike: Indian Railways has officially notified a modest increase in passenger train fares, effective from July 1, 2025. The fare revision, described as marginal by the Ministry of Railways, aims to enhance the financial sustainability of railway operations while streamlining the fare structure. This change will apply to all tickets booked on or after the implementation date. Tickets purchased before July 1 will remain valid at the previous rates.
What’s Changing in Train Fares?
The new fares are based on the revised Passenger Fare Table issued by the Indian Railway Conference Association (IRCA). According to officials, ticketing systems across all platforms PRS (Passenger Reservation System), UTS (Unreserved Ticketing System), and manual counters are being updated to reflect these changes.
The adjustments vary based on travel class and distance, but suburban fares and season tickets for both suburban and non-suburban routes remain unchanged.
What Stays Unchanged?
- Suburban fares and season tickets will not see any increase, for both suburban and non-suburban routes.
- Ancillary charges such as reservation fees, superfast surcharges, and other additional charges remain unchanged.
- GST rates will continue to apply as per current government regulations.
- Fare rounding-off rules remain the same.
