In an attempt to simplify the ticket booking process, the Indian Railways has launched the RailOne application, which will allow booking both reserved and unreserved tickets. The super app also serves as a one-stop solution for various passenger services.

Additionally, the Indian Railways has reduced the Advance Reservation Period (ARP) for booking train tickets from 120 days to 60 days, effective from November 1. The IRCTC Advance Reservation Period (ARP) is the number of days before a journey that passengers can book a train ticket in advance.

The IRCTC has also come up with a new facility, a lower berth Ticket facility, to make journeys easy for those who might have difficulty climbing to the middle or upper berths.

What Is Lower Berth Ticket Facility?

The lower berth ticket facility is a system introduced by the IRCTC to reserve specific lower berths in trains for people who really need them. The Indian Railways has decided to reserve more lower berths for:

  • Senior Citizens

  • Women passengers (especially those traveling alone or pregnant women)

  • Specially-abled (disabled) passengers

What Is The Current IRCTC Lower Berth Rules 2025?

Under the current IRCTC lower berth rules, there is a provision for allotting lower berths automatically to senior citizens and female passengers above the age of 45 year,s and also for pregnant women. However, it is subject to the availability of such lower berths at the time of booking.

Due to this, many times, people who need a lower berth do not get the required berth on numerous occasions. To do away with this situation, passengers who want to travel in a lower berth for train travel should keep in mind their preference while booking the reserved tickets through the internet.
