India-Pakistan Ceasefire: Pakistan violated the ceasefire agreement with India mere hours after both nations agreed to put an end to all military hostilities. The two countries, long embroiled in cross-border tensions, had jointly decided to halt all land, air, and sea-based military operations on Saturday afternoon. However, later that night, Pakistan broke the understanding by sending drones across the border.

Drones from Pakistan were spotted in several Indian regions from Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir to Bhuj in Gujarat leading to immediate blackouts in various border cities as a security precaution. In response to the breach, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) took note of the developments.

Despite being accused by India of breaching the deal, Pakistan on Sunday said that it “remains committed to faithful implementation” of the ceasefire agreement reached with India after New Delhi accused it of violating the arrangement hours after agreeing to it.

“We believe that any issues in smooth implementation of the ceasefire should be addressed through communication at appropriate levels. The troops on ground should also exercise restraint,” the statement read.

The statement came after Pakistani forces reportedly engaged in drone incursions and shelling in multiple Indian border areas, including Barmer in Rajasthan and Baramulla in Jammu and Kashmir.

Ceasefire Declared, But Key Indian Measures to Stay in Force

Although a ceasefire has now been declared, the following actions taken by India will still remain in effect:

While the ceasefire is now officially in place, several firm measures previously adopted by India will continue unchanged:

1. Indus Waters Treaty Suspension

The Indus Waters Treaty will remain on hold. Government officials clarified that the ceasefire agreement signed on Saturday came with no conditions, and hence, the suspension of the water-sharing treaty stays intact.

2. Closure of Attari-Wagah Border Crossing

The Integrated Check Post (ICP) at Attari will stay closed. In light of recent hostilities, the Attari-Wagah border has been completely shut down following intense cross-border activity over the past week.

3. Trade Ban with Pakistan

All imports from Pakistan, including those routed through third-party nations, will continue to be banned. Pakistani ships are prohibited from docking at Indian ports, and Indian vessels are barred from accessing ports in Pakistan.

4. Airspace Restrictions

India's airspace will remain closed to all flights coming from, headed to, or passing through Pakistan. This restriction has been in place since 30 April and will not be lifted for now.

5. Ban on Pakistani Artists

The existing ban on Pakistani actors and artists will stay. For national security reasons, OTT platforms and streaming services in India must block access to Pakistani content, including web series, movies, songs, podcasts, and other media.

6. Visa Suspension for Pakistani Nationals

India will continue to withhold all visa services for Pakistani citizens. After the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, all categories of visas were suspended. Those who were already in India were asked to leave by 27 April, while medical visa extensions ended on 29 April.
