Indian Army Operation Sindoor: India’s Operation Sindoor is unlike anything the country has done before in terms of military action. It’s showcasing technological strength and strategic precision like never before.
According to Major General (Retd.) Shammi Sabhwal, former GOC of the Uttarakhand Sub Area, this operation highlights how far India has come in missile technology, placing it among the global leaders, as reported by Jagran.com.
What Makes Operation Sindoor Stand Out?
Operation Sindoor stands apart from all previous Indian operations for several reasons. It’s more technologically advanced, broader in scale, and strategically bolder. Most importantly, it sends a clear message to terrorist groups operating in Pakistan and their backers that India will respond decisively to any threat.
From Balakot to Operation Sindoor
During the Balakot surgical strike, India used Mirage 2000 fighter jets. However, the situation has evolved significantly over the past six years. India now possesses some of the world’s most advanced fighter aircraft — the Rafale jets — equipped with Scalp missiles specially designed for them.
In 2019, following the Pulwama attack, India carried out an airstrike in Balakot, Pakistan. That operation was limited to Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) and targeted only a single location. In contrast, Operation Sindoor struck nine different targets simultaneously.
India’s Growing Military Strength
This operation marks a major shift: India has targeted undisputed Pakistani territory not just PoK, but deep into Pakistan’s Punjab province striking the headquarters of groups like Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e-Taiba using missiles, and all without crossing the border.
This is not only a strong retaliation for the Pahalgam terror attack but also a clear demonstration of India’s expanding strategic and military capabilities.
According to the Global Firepower Index 2025, India now far outpaces Pakistan in terms of military strength. As a result, Pakistan is left with empty threats, it lacks the capacity to take any substantial action. Additionally, it has sold a significant portion of its strategic ammunition stockpile to Ukraine, severely weakening its defences.

Due to this ammunition shortage, Pakistan’s ability to defend itself against a powerful adversary like India has been seriously compromised. This is why it is unlikely to escalate matters into a full-scale war, though it may resort to symbolic gestures such as firing along the Line of Control (LoC) or launching minor air raids for which India is fully prepared.
