In the wake of a shocking incident that took place on a Mumbai-Kolkata flight, where a passenger slapped a co-flier, the IndiGo airline has banned the accused from flying on any IndiGo flights. The accused slapped his co-flier reportedly without any provocation. Soon after, the video of the incident went viral on social media, showing the assault of a man who was reportedly experiencing a panic attack on the Kolkata-bound flight, the airline issued a statement.

In an official statement on X (formerly Twitter), IndiGo airline stated, “In line with our commitment to discourage such unruly behaviour onboard flights, the individual has been suspended from flying on any IndiGo flights, in accordance with regulatory provisions.”

The man who was slapped was identified as Hossain Ahmed Mazumdar. Mazumdar was escorted back to his seat by flight attendants as he looked anxious after being slapped. “Following due diligence, the incident involving an unruly customer has been formally reported to the relevant authorities for necessary action,” the airline stated.

Since then, Mazumdar has been reportedly missing. “The passenger who was assaulted on the flight was to reach Silchar from Kolkata, but never arrived,” the Times of India report stated. His family was waiting for him at the Silchar airport, but he did not arrive.

Mazumdar’s family has urged the authorities to look after him. “When we didn't find him on the Silchar flight, we contacted the local authorities and even went to Udharband police station near the Silchar airport,” one of his relatives said. His family have asked the authorities to access the CCTV footage in order to trace him.
