IndiGo Crisis: The civil aviation minister, Ram Mohan Naidu, on Tuesday stated that IndiGo has been directed to cut its flight operations by 10 per cent to stabilise schedules and reduce cancellations. He emphasised that the decision will help the airline to normalise the situation after being affected by the new flight duty norms for pilots. The minister also informed that refunds for the flights cancelled till December 6 have been completed, adding that the IndiGo CEO was summoned to provide details regarding the crisis. IndiGo has been facing massive backlash from the passengers after hundreds of its flights got cancelled at the key airports in the past week.
In his statement, Naidu stated that IndiGo will continue to cover all its destinations even after a reduction in the flight operations. "A curtailment of 10 per cent (in IndiGo's flight schedule) has been ordered. While abiding with it, IndiGo will continue to cover all its destinations as before," Naidu stated. He further stated that a review meeting was held with the top officials of IndiGo to review the stabilisation measures.
"While the enquiry and necessary actions are underway, another meeting with Indigo's top management was held to review the stabilisation measures. On Tuesday again, IndiGo CEO Pieter Elbers was summoned to the Ministry to provide an update," Naidu emphasised in his statement.
IndiGo CEO, in a video message, assured that the flight operations have been normalised, adding that an internal probe has been launched. “IndiGo is back on its feet, and our operations are stable. Lakhs of customers have received full refunds, and we continue to process them daily. Most of the bags stuck at airports have been delivered to homes. We are addressing every customer need," Elbers said in his video message.
Earlier on Monday, Naidu had clarified that the situation was being monitored and it was not being taken lightly by the central government.
