IndiGo Flight Disruptions: IndiGo faced a massive backlash from the passengers after at least 200 flights were cancelled on Wednesday from major cities such as Mumbai, Delhi, and Bengaluru. As per the Civil Aviation Ministry website, IndiGo's on-time performance from six key domestic airports plunged to 35 per cent on Tuesday, its worst performance in recent history. The Directorate general of Civil Aviation also launched a probe into the disruptions and has asked the airlines to submit a detailed report. While providing details, the airlines stated that the flights were cancelled due to several reasons, including implementation of updated crew rostering rules, technology glitches, and schedule changes. It further stated that the passengers are being offered alternatives to reduce the inconveniences.
Reasons Behind The Flight Disruption
As per the airlines, one of the reasons behind the flight disruptions is the implementation of updated crew rostering rules. The rule mandates specific rest hours for the pilots and crew; however, the airline lacked cabin crew in the past two days, leading to the disruptions, reported NDTV, citing sources. In its statement, IndiGo said that the changes in rule and other factors had a negative impact on the operations. "We acknowledge that IndiGo's operations have been significantly disrupted across the network for the past two days, and we sincerely apologise to our customers for the inconvenience caused," IndiGo said in its statement.
Absolute chaos & mockery at #Delhiairport. #Indigo staff are leeches who are lying & passengers are stranded since past 12+ hours with no confirmatiom. My flight is delayed for 7+ hours now. Never flying Indigo again. This needs to be investigated @IndiGo6E @MoCA_GoI @RamMNK pic.twitter.com/Z7DAvK2Cei

"A multitude of unforeseen operational challenges, including minor technology glitches, schedule changes linked to the winter season, adverse weather conditions, increased congestion in the aviation system and the implementation of updated crew rostering rules (Flight Duty Time Limitations) had a negative compounding impact on our operations in a way that was not feasible to be anticipated," it added.
IndiGo's Future Plans To Avoid Cancellations
The airline has planned to cancel and reschedule flights as part of the adjustments to normalise the operations, adding that the changes will be in place for the next 48 hours. "To contain the disruption and restore stability, we have initiated calibrated adjustments to our schedules. These measures will remain in place for the next 48 hours and will allow us to normalize our operations and progressively recover our punctuality across the network," IndiGo asserted.
