In an uncanny incident, an IndiGo plane continued its journey despite its rear section being damaged after striking the runway during takeoff. The IndiGo flight No. 6E 6054, which was bound for Bengaluru, suffered significant damage due to a serious tail strike, which reportedly took place on September 9. This incident has raised concerns over a major security lapse.

According to sources, the aircraft landed safely without any injuries. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and airport authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.

As part of the process, the DGCA has taken the crew off duty and is working to determine the details of what occurred. Sources added that passengers were safely deboarded and alternative arrangements were made for them.

“On Sept 9, 2024, an IndiGo A321 was grounded in Bangalore due to a tail strike. The aircraft is currently under maintenance and will be back in operation post necessary repairs. The incident is under investigation,” TOI cited IndiGo as saying in a statement.

The incident came days after several flyers were left stranded on Mumbai-Doha Flight after the IndiGo plane hit a technical snag. The flight was later cancelled and other arrangements were made for the passengers.

What is tailstrike

A tail strike occurs when an aircraft's tail makes contact with the runway during takeoff or landing. This can be hazardous, as it may cause structural damage, particularly to the rear pressure bulkhead—a cone-shaped section in the tail that seals the pressured cabin.
