IndiGo Crisis: As air travel remains suspended across India, railways have stepped in to ease the passenger crisis by adding extra coaches to major inter-state trains across the country. Earlier, the Railways on Friday, December 5 deployed 116 extra coaches on 37 trains across multiple zones as passenger loads surged across the country.

So far, the Railways have achieved 114 extra trips by utilising additional coaches across sleeper, AC chair car and general second-class categories. According to officials, quoted by News18, these efforts have successfully accommodated 4.89 lakh passengers in total, with each trip carrying up to 4,000 passengers.

The officials said that plans are also underway to introduce 30 new special trains with 18 coaches each and capable of carrying more than 30,000 passengers per trip. These special trains are expected to provide 57 additional trips and cater to over 21 lakh travellers.

IndiGo Crisis: Railways Add 3AC Coach On Key Trains

- Bengaluru - Agartala Humsafar Express

- Mangaluru - Thiruvananthapuram Central Express

- Bengaluru - Chennai Dr MGR Chennai Express

- Mumbai - Mangaluru Superfast Express

- Mumbai - Mangaluru CST Superfast Express

Special Trains Announced By Indian Railways

Besides adding extra coaches to many trains, the railways have announced four special train services for the people, which are:

- 05591/05592: Gorakhpur - Anand Vihar Terminal - Gorakhpur Special will run four trips between 7th and 9th December.

- 02439/02440: New Delhi - Shaheed Captain Tushar Mahajan - New Delhi Reserved Vande Bharat Special will run on 6th December.

- 04002/04001: New Delhi - Mumbai Central - New Delhi Reserved Superfast Special will run on December 6th and 7th.

- 04080: Hazrat Nizamuddin - Thiruvananthapuram Central Reserved Superfast Special will run a one-way trip on December 6.

IndiGo Flight Cancellation: Extra Coaches In Rajdhani

One third AC coach has been added to the Jammu Rajdhani (12425/12426) and Dibrugarh Rajdhani (12423/124324) while an AC Chair Car coach has been introduced in the Chandigarh Shatabdi (12045/12046) and Amritsar Shatabdi (12029/12030).

“We are closely monitoring the situation. If required, we may run fully air-conditioned special trains on multiple routes to ensure passengers are not inconvenienced due to flight disruptions," a senior railway official stated, quoted News18.
