Indore Metro Update: The Indore Metro is all set to begin operations on its Super Priority Corridor, with the Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (MPMRCL) fast-tracking final preparations. The Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety has granted approval following a comprehensive inspection, clearing the way for the launch. 

Indore Metro Route

The initial phase of the metro will operate between Gandhi Nagar Station and Station No. 3 on the Super Corridor, covering five stations. Services will run daily from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm at 30-minute intervals, offering 25 trips in each direction,  a total of 50 round trips per day. 

This stretch runs through a sparsely populated area, which may affect ridership in the early days. Eventually, the Yellow Line will cover 28 stations.

Indore Metro Fare Structure 

MPMRCL has finalised the fare structure for the Super Priority Corridor. The fare between Gandhi Nagar and Super Corridor-03 will range from Rs 20 to Rs 30. The Automatic Fare Collection (AFC) system is ready, with full operations expected to commence post-testing.

The fare system is divided into five zones:

- Zone 1 (1–2 stations): Rs 20

- Zone 2 (3–5 stations): Rs 30

- Zone 3 (6–8 stations): Rs 40

- Zone 4 (9–11 stations): Rs 50

- Zone 5 (12–14 stations): Rs 60

- More than 14 stations: Rs 80

Indore Metro Free Rides 

To encourage ridership, the Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MPMRCL) is introducing attractive launch discounts. During the first week of operations, all rides will be free for commuters, a New18 report stated.

In the second week, passengers can avail discounts of up to 70 percent on ticket fares, followed by a 50 percent discount in the third week. From the fourth week onwards, and for a period of up to three months, discounts of up to 25 percent will be offered to promote continued use of the metro service, the report added.

Indore Metro Project 

Launched on September 14, 2019, the Indore Metro project is being developed at a cost of Rs7,500.80 crore. Phase I includes a 31.50-km circular corridor aimed at boosting urban mobility.

Although stations are built for six-coach trains, three-coach trains will be deployed initially. Each coach can accommodate about 300 passengers, including 50 seated. Additional coaches may be added based on demand.
