Indore Metro Phase 2: The trial run for the second phase of the metro rail in Indore was conducted successfully by the Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MPMRCL) on Friday. The trial run took place on a 6-km stretch of the Phase 2 between the SC-3 and MR-10 metro stations, as per the metro officials. The metro ran with an average speed of 10 kmph on this stretch.

Managing Director of Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MPMRCL), S. Krishna Chaitanya, congratulated the engineering and operations team for the achievement. The managing director also asked the staff to speed up the work and complete the second phase as soon as possible. The trial run aimed at assessing track alignment, signaling systems, and train performance. Officials stated that the results were satisfactory and helped pave the way for future operations.

The metro management aims to extend commercial operations to Radisson Square by January next year to increase passenger numbers. This will bring the total operational length to around 17.5 kilometres, connecting to key areas like Vijay Nagar, Sukhlia, and IT companies along the Super Corridor.

Indore Metro Project: All You Need To Know

The Indore Metro Project is a three-phase metro rail project:

- Phase 1: The first phase is a 6-km stretch from the Metro Depot to Super Corridor Station 3. It was virtually inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi from Bhopal on May 31. It is currently operational for the passengers.

- Phase 2: The second phase is an 11-km stretch joining the Super Corridor Station No. 3 to Malviya Nagar Square, also called Radisson Square. The trial run has already begun on Friday, September 19. It is expected to be completed by January and begin commercial operations in early 2026.

- Phase 3: The last and most challenging phase of the metro rail network is the 14-km stretch, which will include both underground and elevated stations. It will have 12 stations, but the specific route is still not confirmed. According to a senior MPMRCL official, quoted by the Times of India, “the tendering process for this phase is complete and work is expected to begin this year.”
