Indore Water Contamination: As the death toll in the Indore diarrhea outbreak due to contamination in drinking water has risen to 15, a new development highlighting gross negligence at the municipal level has emerged.
Two years ago, a BJP councilor requested the replacement of dilapidated drinking water pipelines. However, the Indore Municipal Corporation had not taken any action until now.
BJP councillor Kamal Vaghela of Ward 11 in Indore had written a letter to the municipal corporation, requesting replacement of old and dilapidated drinking water pipelines in Bhagirathpura, which falls in his ward.
Kamal Vaghela had already identified the drinking water problem in Bhagirathpura, almost a year after the BJP's victory in the Indore Municipal Corporation elections in July 2022.
BJP councilor had given a warning two years ago. Vaghela wrote a letter to Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Friday, January 2. Vaghela accused municipal officials of ignoring his request to replace a water pipeline.
Vaghela, who has opened a front against IMC officials, claimed that he had been raising concerns about contamination of drinking water in Bhagirathpura since 2023 and had also lodged a complaint in this matter on the Chief Minister's helpline.
"I demanded the laying of a new pipeline in Bhagirathapura. An official file was created on my request on November 12, 2024, but it was held up for seven months."
The BJP councilor stated that after contacting Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargava, the tender was issued on July 30, 2025. Vaghela alleged that the tender process was not completed within the stipulated time. Vaghela demanded action against the officials responsible.

The councillor of Ward 11 said that 40 per cent of the pipelines in his ward are old and about Rs 23 lakh is required to replace them.
