Congress MP and Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday met the family of Haryana IPS officer Y. Puran Kumar and expressed grief over his alleged suicide at his Chandigarh residence. Rahul Gandhi described the incident as a symbol of the deepening social poison that is crushing humanity in the name of caste.
He urged Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini and Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take prompt action in the case.
"My message as LoP to PM Modi and the Haryana Chief Minister is fulfil commitment to the daughters of IPS Puran Kumar, let his funeral take place," he said.
“The suicide of Haryana IPS officer Y. Puran Kumar is a symbol of the deepening social poison that is crushing humanity in the name of caste. When an IPS officer has to endure humiliation and oppression because of his caste, imagine the conditions in which ordinary Dalit citizens must be living,” Rahul Gandhi tweeted after meeting IPS family.
He further stated that the hatred and Manuwadi ideology of the BJP-RSS have poisoned society, leaving Dalits, tribals, backward classes, and Muslims losing hope for justice.

“The murder of Hariom Valmiki in Rae Bareli, the insult to the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, and now Puran ji's death, these incidents show that injustice against the marginalised is at its peak. The hatred and Manuwadi thinking of the BJP-RSS have poisoned society. Dalits, tribals, backward classes, and Muslims are losing hope for justice today. This struggle is not just Puran ji's, it is the struggle of every Indian who believes in the Constitution, equality, and justice,” he added.
