Iran announced an indefinite closure of its airspace on Friday following Israel's massive attack on Tehran's nuclear and military installations. The decision is likely to affect the operation of Indian airlines, as Pakistan had already announced the closure of its airspace for India after tensions escalated between New Delhi and Islamabad following the Pahalgam terror attack. Earlier on June 13, sixteen Air India flights either got diverted or returned to their origin after Iran's announcement to avoid inconveniences.

With the closure of the airspace of Iran and Pakistan, Indian airlines are likely to take longer routes to reach Central Asia and Western countries. Earlier on Friday, Air India stated that it is taking steps to minimise the inconveniences to the passengers, adding that refunds on cancellation or rescheduling is also offered to the passengers. It further advised the passengers to stay updated and to check flight status to avoid inconveniences.

"Due to the emerging situation in Iran, subsequent closure of its airspace, and in view of the safety of our passengers, (some) Air India flights are either being diverted or returning to their origin. We regret the inconvenience caused to our passengers due to this unforeseen disruption and are making every effort to minimise it, including providing accommodation for passengers," Air India stated.

"Refund on cancellation or complimentary rescheduling is also being offered to guests who opt for it. Alternative arrangements are being made to fly passengers to their destinations. We advise passengers to check their flight status," it added. Apart from this, the airline is reportedly considering changing the status of some of the flights after Iran's decision.
