Israeli Embassy Explosion: Several teams of Delhi Police, including those from the crime unit and the forensics department, and fire service officials arrived at Chanakyapuri area after receiving information of a blast near the Israeli Embassy, news agency ANI reported. An Israeli diplomat confirmed that a blast indeed took place near the embassy premises.

"This evening several minutes after 5, an explosion occurred in close proximity of the Embassy. All our diplomats and workers are safe. Our security teams are working in full cooperation with local Delhi security and they will investigate the matter further," Deputy Ambassador of Israel to India, Ohad Nakash Kaynar, was quoted as saying by ANI.

A letter to Israel's Ambassador to India was found at the site of the purported blast, The Indian Express said in its report. The letter is a typed one and is "abusive" in nature, sources cited in the report informed. "So far nothing has been found at the location," Atul Garg, Director, Delhi Fire Services had stated prior to the emergence of the Israeli embassy's reaction on the matter.

This comes amidst the armed conflict between Israel and Palestinian militant outfit Hamas in the Gaza Strip. The counteroffensive launched by Israel in Gaza has so far claimed the lives of over 20,000 people, as per figures provided by the Hamas-controlled authorities of the Palestinian exclave.

Israel launched its counteroffensive after Hamas militants carried out a rampage across southern Israel on October 7 this year. The onslaught on Israeli territory lead to the deaths of nearly 1,400 people. Nearly 250 people were abducted by Hamas militants from Israeli territory.

Dozens of women and children, who were among the people abducted by Hamas militants, were released from captivity as part of Hamas' prisoners-hostages swap last month in exchange for hundreds of Palestinian prisoners held under Israeli detention.
