Jammu And Kashmir Assembly Election 2024: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday (August 26) released its first list of 44 candidates for the upcoming Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir but deleted it soon after. The party will amend the list and will release the list of candidates again. In its first list, three key names including BJP president Ravinder Raina, and former Deputy chief ministers Nirmal Singh and Kavinder Gupta were missing.
In its first list, which has now been withdrawn, he party has fielded Arshid Bhat from Rajpora, Mohd Rafiq Wani from Anantnag West, Javed Ahmad Qadri from Shopian, Adv Syed Wazahat from Anantnag, Sushri Shagun Parihar from Kishtwar, and Gajay Singh Rana from Doda.
The list of 44 candidates was released following a crucial meeting held on Sunday, under the leadership of JP Nadda and attended by key figures including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah.

The elections in Jammu and Kashmir will be held in three phases on September 18, September 23 and October 1. The counting of votes will take place on October 4.
The upcoming election in the Kashmir Valley marks a pivotal moment in its political history, being the first since the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019, which led to the division of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir into two Union Territories.
Notably, Jammu and Kashmir has been without an elected government since June 2018, when the BJP withdrew from the coalition government led by Mehbooba Mufti’s PDP, leading to the imposition of Governor’s Rule and the dissolution of the Assembly by then-Governor Satya Pal Malik.
