Pahalgam Terror Attack: Pakistani forces have continued the unprovoked firing along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir for the fourth consecutive night, according to military officials.
On the night of April 27-28, the Indian Army reported that posts of the Pakistan Army initiated small arms fire targeting areas opposite the Kupwara and Poonch districts. The Indian troops responded "swiftly and effectively" to the attacks. This marks the first ceasefire violation in the Poonch sector by the Pakistan Army.
The hostilities began following a terrorist attack in Pahalgam last Tuesday, which resulted in the deaths of 26 individuals. The situation between India and Pakistan has further deteriorated after it was revealed that a terror group linked to the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba was involved in this assault, making it the deadliest attack in Jammu and Kashmir since the Pulwama incident.
In response to the violence, India has implemented a series of stringent measures against Pakistan. These include the expulsion of Pakistani military attaches, the suspension of the decades-old Indus Waters Treaty and the shutdown of the Attari land-transit post. These decisions were made following a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who pledged to "identify, track and punish" all terrorists and those supporting them.
In retaliation, Pakistan has also suspended all bilateral agreements with India, including the Simla Agreement.
Additionally, police in India have released sketches of three suspects believed to be connected to the Pahalgam attack. The individuals are identified as Hashim Musa alias Suleman and Ali Bhai alias Talha Bhai, both from Pakistan and Adil Hussain Thoker, a local from Anantnag district. Authorities have offered a reward of Rs 20 lakh for any credible information leading to their arrest.
