Shopian Encounter: At least three Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists were killed in an encounter with the Security Forces in Jammu and Kashir's Shopian amid tensions between India and Pakistan on Tuesday. The officials said they have been killed in an exchange of fire with security forces in Shukroo forest area of Keller in South Kashmir’s Shopian district.

A top police officer said that a massive cordon and search operation was launched in the forests of Kellar after having specific input about the presence of some terrorists.

Identity Of Killed Terrorists Is Being Ascertained: Officials

As the team of police and army started combing operation, the hiding terrorists fired upon the party, triggering off gunfight. During the exchange of fire, three LeT terrorists were killed, however identity of the terrorists is being ascertained.

Based on a specific input about the presence of terrorists in Shukroo Keller area, the security forces launched a cordon and search operation there.

They said the search operation turned into an encounter after the terrorists fired upon the forces who retaliated. The exchange of fire is going on, the officials said.

The development comes three days after India and Pakistan reached an agreement on the ceasefire as Indian Armed Forces launched massive airstrikes in Pakistan and Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK) to avenge the Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed 26 lives, mostly tourits.

India-Pakistan Continue To Adhere Commitment To Not Fire At Border

Meanwhile, India and Pakistan continue to adhere to not fire a single shot or initiate any aggressive and inimical action against each other, according to the sources. This comes after the talks between Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of India and Pakistan on Monday. The news agency, ANI, citing its sources, also reported, after initial sightings of drones in Jammu, Samba, Akhnoor, and Kathua, the Indian Army confirmed that no drones have been detected. The ceasefire situation prevails.

The Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of India and Pakistan held crucial talks and issues related to continuing the commitment that both sides must not fire a single shot or initiate any aggressive action were discussed.

It was also agreed that both sides consider immediate measures to ensure troop reduction from the borders and forward areas.

The DGMO-level talks between the two countries, which were initially slated to take place around noon on Monday, were later scheduled for the evening. The two countries reached an understanding on Saturday on stoppage of firing and military action following a call made by Pakistan DGMO to his Indian counterpart Lt Gen Rajiv Ghai.

Lt Gen Ghai, who interacted with the media at a joint press conference on Sunday, said his Pakistan counterpart proposed during an interaction on Saturday that "we cease hostilities".

Earlier, the Indian Army also said that no enemy drones have been reported on Indian territory at present and the situation remains calm and completely under full control.
