Jammu And Kashmir Landslide: Heavy rainfall on Sunday has caused overflowing rivers and streams across Jammu and Kashmir, leading to widespread landslides. The severe weather has significantly impacted local transportation, making it difficult for many, especially sisters traveling to celebrate Rakshabandhan, to reach their brothers. Some were forced to walk due to blocked roads.
Jammu And Kashmir: Landlside In Billawar
Landslides caused significant disruptions in the Billawar sub-district, affecting connecting roads. The local administration is working to clear the debris, with expectations that the roads will be passable again by Monday. Major rivers in the area, including the Naaz, Bhini, Ujj, and Panchtirthi, overflowed dangerously due to the persistent rain.
Jammu And Kashmir Landlside: Roads Disrupted
Several specific roads, including Riyad Baggan and Katli Malhar Road, were obstructed by fresh landslides, preventing vehicle movement. Traffic was halted on connecting routes to Kohag Dalian, Dhar Dugganu, Hotar, and Duggeni Bala’s Sadrota and Patodi, causing considerable inconvenience to residents.
Jammu And Kashmir Weather Forecast
The Meteorological Centre in Srinagar has forecasted that light showers will continue over isolated areas in Kashmir, while light to moderate rain is expected in Jammu until August 23. Authorities have issued warnings about flooding and landslides, urging residents to stay away from dangerous areas, particularly near rivers and drains, including the Tawi and Chenab.
Srinagar-Jammu Highway Blocked
Additionally, the ongoing rain has led to disruptions on the Srinagar-Jammu highway. Landslides in the Ramban area caused a two-hour blockage near Dalwas due to mud and debris. Fortunately, traffic was restored around noon after officials worked to clear the roadways. The situation highlights the challenges posed by severe weather conditions in the region.
