J-K Weather: Amid heavy rainfall, landslides occurred at two places on the Vaishno Devi marg. Heavy showers which began on Wednesday night continued till Thursday morning. On Thursday morning around 11:00 am, a landslide occurred near Gulshan Nagar in the Banganga area on the Vaishno Devi road leading to the fall of huge stones. The Yatra was underway at the time of the incident, however, no devotee was injured.

Following the incident, the Shrine Board banned the movement of devotees in this area and started the work of removing stones, which continued till evening. At around 7:00 pm, after removing pebbles and stones and clearing the road, the area was opened for movement of devotees.

In another incident, roads were damaged in the Kangan area due to floods following heavy rain in Ganderbal’s Kangan area, news agency ANI reported on Saturday.

Yatra Diverted Towards Chetak Bhawan

The devotees were diverted from Darshini Deorhi, the entrance gate of Mata Vaishno Devi, towards the new Tarakot route via Chetak Bhawan and they continued travelling towards the traditional route through the new Tarakot route.

In the second incident, on Thursday night, a sudden landslide also occurred in the Milkbar area on the traditional route of Mata Vaishno Devi when the pilgrimage was underway.

Due to the landslide, a stretch of about 30 to 40 feet was damaged after which the Shrine Board administration barricaded the damaged part.

Repair Work Begins

Despite this incident, there has been no impact on the movement of devotees through the traditional route. It may take around 10 to 15 days for the Shrine Board administration to completely repair the damaged road. At present, the Shrine Board has started the repair work.

Helicopter Service Suspended

Although it did not rain on Friday, the sky and Trikuta mountain were covered with clouds most of the time. Helicopter service was available to the devotees for about three to four hours in the morning. Clouds once again gathered on Trikuta mountain, due to which the helicopter service had to be suspended. Meanwhile, rain activity was witnessed in parts of Srinagar city on Saturday morning.
