Weather Updates: As an active monsoon weather system intensifies, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for parts of Kerala, West Bengal, Chhattisgarh, Tamil Nadu and Odisha. These states are likely to receive heavy rainfall on Saturday, August 17. Meanwhile, moderate to very light rainfall is predicted for Delhi and Mumbai today. Additionally, northeastern states like Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura will receive heavy downpours today. 

“Heavy to very heavy rainfall (≥ 12 cm) very likely at isolated places over Chhattisgarh, Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal and Kerala & Mahe; Heavy rainfall (≥ 7 cm) at isolated places over Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, East Uttar Pradesh, West Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Jharkhand, Assam,” stated IMD in its latest weather bulletin.

There is a possibility of thunderstorms accompanied with lighting over West Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, Assam and Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura, Konkan and Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal, Kerala and Mahe, Rayalaseema, Telangana and Interior Karnataka.

Delhi Weather Today

Delhi is likely to see moderate to light rainfall in isolated areas on Saturday. Drizzling accompanied by thunderstorms and generally cloudy weather shall be witnessed in several areas. Maximum temperature is likely to remain around 33.8 degree Celsius. Whereas, minimum temperature is likely to remain around 26.5 degree Celsius.

The national capital has been witnessing rainfall on a daily basis since the beginning of August. The city has recorded 15 consecutive days of rain, ranging from light drizzles to heavy showers. On Friday, Safdarjung, Delhi’s primary weather station, registered 13.6 mm of rain, while Palam, Ayanagar, and Narela recorded 28.5 mm, 18.6 mm, and 9.5 mm respectively.

Despite the prevailing conditions, Delhi’s temperature remains above normal, with the city recording a maximum of 35.2 degrees Celsius on Friday, 1.4 degrees above the usual. High humidity levels, reaching 70 per cent in the evening, added to the discomfort.

Uttarakhand Weather Update

According to the Director of Meteorological Centre, Bikram Singh, heavy rainfall may continue in some areas of Uttarakhand for the next few days. The Kumaon region may experience periods of very intense rain. Heavy rains may occur with thunder and lightning at some places in Nainital, Champawat, Bageshwar and Udham Singh Nagar. Intense rain is also possible in other districts including Dehradun.
