Jammu Floods: At least three people, including two minors, lost their lives while four others were rescued after flash floods triggered by heavy rainfall and cloudbursts struck parts of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday. The incidents were reported from several districts including Rajouri, Doda, Poonch and Kathua.

According to officials, a sudden surge of water swept away three children in Kalakote sub-division of Rajouri district. While two of them—Shaqafat Ali (14) and his cousin Safeena Kousar (11)—drowned, another child, Saima (10), was rescued by local residents and taken to a hospital for treatment. The children were reportedly grazing cattle in their village Sialsui Mou when the flash flood struck. The bodies of the deceased were handed over to their families after retrieval.

In another incident, the body of Basharat Hussain (32), a resident of Dunadi village, was recovered from Lopa stream in Doda district by the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF). He had reportedly gone missing while bathing in the stream on June 23.

Two Rescued From Ujh River In Kathua

Meanwhile, in Kathua district’s Jarmal village under Nagri block, two men—Baldev Raj (35) and Sushil Kumar (25)—were rescued by the SDRF after they got trapped in the swollen Ujh river while fishing. Similarly, in Poonch district, one individual was rescued from a local stream.

Jammu Rain: Flood-Like Situation in Other Areas

Cloudbursts and flash floods were also reported from high-altitude areas such as Qazi Mora in Poonch and hilly stretches of Doda, Udhampur and Ramban. However, no injuries or fatalities were reported in these regions.

Jammu Floods: Ban On Activities Near Water Bodies

In response to the situation, the district administrations in Rajouri and Doda have imposed strict restrictions on swimming, bathing, fishing, and visiting rivers, nallahs, and waterfalls. School picnics near water bodies have also been prohibited.

Authorities have urged the public to stay alert and avoid venturing near swollen streams or rivers. Police teams have been using loudspeakers to warn residents in flood-prone zones.

Jammu Weather Forecast

The weather department has predicted light to moderate rainfall across many parts of Jammu, with chances of heavy showers in isolated areas till Friday.
