Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and president of the National Conference, Farooq Abdullah, was admitted to a private hospital in Srinagar after suffering from an abdominal infection.
The former Chief Minister developed an abdominal infection earlier this week and was hospitalised in Srinagar for treatment, news agency PTI reported.
The 87-year-old, father of the current Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, had been unwell for the past few days and was hospitalised. The National Conference party leaders have stated that the veteran politician’s health has improved and he is expected to be discharged soon.
"He (Abdullah) was not keeping well for the past few days, but his condition is getting better now. He is likely to be discharged later today or tomorrow,” PTI quoted a party leader as saying.
Farooq Abdullah On Ladakh Protest
Earlier this week, Farooq Abdullah urged the Centre to hold talks with the people of Ladakh to address their questions. His statement came a day after violence broke out in Leh amid demands for statehood.
“I want to tell the government that it (Ladakh) is a border state. China is lurking; they have occupied land. It is time to resolve it quickly. The government should hold talks and resolve it,” Abdullah wrote.
When questioned about the government’s claims linking climate activist Sonam Wangchuk to the Ladakh unrest, the former chief minister dismissed the allegations, stating that the peace activist was not responsible.

“He (Wangchuk) has never left the Gandhian way. The youth have sidelined him today. He is not responsible for it. When they (the BJP) lost elections, they imposed the safety law and put people in jail. Now they are using CBI. The more they use force to suppress, the bigger the danger. I want to tell the government of India not to use force and instead hold dialogue,” he added.
