Jammu Kashmir Weather Updates: Snowfall continues across Jammu and Kashmir, affecting daily life and travel in the region. According to officials, several popular tourist destinations and high-altitude areas in Kashmir witnessed fresh snowfall on Tuesday, while the plains experienced rainfall.

All major highways, including the Srinagar-Jammu highway, the Srinagar-Leh highway, and the Mughal Road, were closed to traffic due to snowfall and landslides triggered by the inclement weather.

Traffic Department officials stated that snowfall at Zojila Pass and Peer Ki Gali led to the closure of the Srinagar-Leh highway and the Mughal Road. Meanwhile, landslides and shooting stones in the Ramban sector forced the closure of the Srinagar-Jammu national highway as well.

The bad weather has led to a significant drop in daytime temperatures across the Valley. Tourist hotspots such as Gulmarg, Pahalgam, Sonamarg, Aru Valley, Chandanwari, and Kokernag received fresh snowfall.

Officials confirmed that Peer Ki Gali in Shopian district and Zojila Pass on the Srinagar-Leh highway saw substantial snowfall, causing further disruptions to road connectivity.

Other high-altitude regions, including Sinthan Top in Anantnag district, Afarwat in Gulmarg, and Razdan Pass in the Gurez Valley, also received snowfall. Sinthan Pass, which connects the Valley with the Kishtwar region of Jammu, and Razdan Pass, linking the Valley with the Gurez border area, were both closed. Additionally, roads leading from Kupwara district to Tangdhar and Keran have also been shut due to snow.

Kashmir Weather Update: Snowfall in Key Areas

According to weather officials, light to moderate rainfall was recorded in the plains of Kashmir, including Srinagar city. There has been a sharp drop in temperatures daytime temperatures have fallen by as much as 13 degrees C in some areas. On Monday, Srinagar recorded a maximum temperature of 12.5 degrees C, well below the seasonal average of 25.5 degrees C.

The Meteorological Department has forecast light to moderate snowfall in the higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir until late morning or early afternoon today, with an overall improvement in weather conditions expected thereafter. The minimum temperature in Srinagar was recorded at 7.1 degrees C, while Gulmarg dipped to -0.4 degrees C and Pahalgam to 0.6 degrees C.

This early autumn snowfall signals the approaching winter in the Valley, where residents are currently harvesting and processing the paddy crop.

Looking ahead, the weather office has predicted mainly dry conditions across Jammu and Kashmir from tomorrow for the next seven days, with only isolated light showers expected in some areas. Farmers have been advised to resume agricultural activities starting tomorrow.
