Jharkhand News: Four families in Jharkhand's West Singhbhum district reportedly faced social boycott after they adopted Christianity. The officials stated that the locals of Haldi Pokhar village restricted their access to basic facilities after objecting to their decision to convert the religion. They further stated that the local administration intervened on Saturday after being informed, adding that the issue was resolved after a village-level meeting. The officials also asserted that strict action will be taken against the offenders if such instances are repeated.
The affected families stated that they were barred from using the basic facilities, including the public hand pump, shops, and well, and were asked to not collect wood and leaves from the local forest, reported the Indian Express. The accused locals, who belonged to the Sarna faith, stated that they boycotted these families to protect their culture and traditions. They further claimed that these conversions due to the lucrative offers will affect their social structure.

Ranjit Oraon, officer-in-charge of Kumardungi police station, stated that the officials held a meeting in the village after being informed about these incidents on Saturday. Oraon asserted that the villagers were informed about the legal actions they could face due to the discrimination.
“We went to the village ourselves and spoke to everyone. The entire village was called, including the village munda. The Circle Officer was also present. Everyone was clearly informed that social boycott is a punishable offence,” Oraon was quoted as saying by the Indian Express.
He further stated that both sides were asked to not take any action and inform the authorities in any case of conflict. "If there is even a small problem, they should inform us and we will reach there. The area is very remote and even phone networks do not work properly,” Oraon asserted.
