President Droupadi Murmu has appointed six Governors in fresh gubernatorial appointments. Among them is Brajmohan Ram, a former Lok Sabha MP, who held the Palamu constituency in Jharkhand for three terms. He is appointed as the Odisha Governor.
His appointment has come as a surprise not only to the people of Jharkhand but also to the local BJP cadre, as Ram was out of active electoral politics for 17 years.
Besides, the last election he contested was the 2009 Lok Sabha elections as an Independent after Palamu went to BJP's ally JDU. Although he returned to the party, his political oblivion had made his career's end almost certain.
He continued to seek tickets for the assembly and parliamentary elections but never succeeded in getting one.
Ram started his political journey as an MLA from Latehar assembly constituency in undivided Bihar in 1991. In 1996, he contested from Palamu on a BJP ticket and won. After Atal Bihari Vajpayee lost the vote of confidence, the elections were held again in 1999. Ram won his seat and retained it for the third time in 2004.
During the rise of the BJP to power, Ram had emerged as a prominent Dalit face of the party. Ram has succeeded Dr Hari Babu Kambhampati, who was in office since January 3 last year. Ram is the second Odisha Governor from Jharkhand after former CM Raghubar Das.

Apart from Ram, BJP's senior leader Om Mathur has been appointed as the Kerala Governor. Dr Sudha Yadav has been appointed as Governor of Karnataka, Dushyant Dautam as Governor of Sikkim, and Dr Dhal Singh Bisen as Governor of Uttarakhand.
Rajendra Arlekar, who was the Kerala Governor and was holding additional charge of Tamil Nadu, has been appointed as full-time Tamil Nadu Governor.
