Jharkhand: Four Miners Trapped Inside Illegal Coal Mine Found Dead By Rescue Team In Ramgarh

Jagran Correspondent Ramgarh | Four men died during illegal coal mining on Saturday morning in the Cashew Garden forest in Ramgarh district, Jharkhand. They succumbed to suffocation due to a lack of oxygen and toxic gas inside the illegally constructed mining tunnel.

Deceased Enter Pit To Extract Illegal Coal

The incident created a wave of panic and mourning throughout the area. According to reports, youth entered a 30-foot-deep pit to illegally extract coal at around 9 am and were trapped inside.

Upon receiving information about the incident, CCL Argada Safety Officer Ramesh Kumar and Argada Area Quality Manager SN Tiwari arrived at the scene and immediately informed the Mines Rescue Team and CCL Giddi Hospital. A 12-member Mines Rescue Team, led by Mines Superintendent Vikas Kumar, arrived at the scene and pulled them out.

Meanwhile, a five-member medical team led by Dr Sagar Kumar from Giddi Hospital arrived at the scene with an ambulance. After considerable effort, the rescue team pulled them out of the mine. They were identified as Kishore and Ashish, residents of Sirka Budh Bazaar, and Deva and Dablu, residents of Tongi. The villagers and relatives took them to Hope Hospital on Ranchi Road, where doctors declared them dead.

Only 2 Per Cent Oxygen Found Inside Mine

According to members of the mine rescue team, the oxygen level at the top of the mine was approximately 9 per cent, while at a depth of 30 feet and a depth of 40 feet, it had dropped to only 2 per cent. Furthermore, toxic gases, including carbon dioxide, were found inside the mine. Doctors and rescue team members said young men likely died due to suffocation caused by severe oxygen deficiency and toxic gases.

Upon receiving information about the incident, Ramgarh Police Station in-charge Inspector Naveen Prakash Pandey and Kuju OP in-charge Ashutosh Kumar Singh arrived at the scene with police forces, monitoring the situation and working to rescue the trapped youths. As news of the accident spread, a large crowd of villagers and relatives of the deceased gathered at the site.

The accident has once again highlighted the ongoing illegal mining in closed mines and the neglect of safety measures.
