Amid the political upheaval in Jharkhand and Bihar, MLAs from both states have sought refuge in Hyderabad over the weekend. Following the swearing-in of Champai Soren as the new Chief Minister of Jharkhand, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) coalition MLAs were whisked away to Hyderabad to safeguard them from potential poaching attempts, while Bihar Congress MLAs arrived for similar reasons.
The JMM coalition MLAs were kept secluded at the Leonia resort under tight security, with police stationed around the clock to monitor their movements. Separate dining arrangements were made to ensure their privacy during their stay.
As the Jharkhand MLAs departed from Hyderabad ahead of the floor test, a fresh group of Bihar Congress MLAs arrived in the city. They were accommodated at the Siri Nature's Valley Resort in Kagazghat, Rangareddy.
Despite the Congress no longer being part of the new government following Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's move to join the NDA, the party is striving to maintain unity among its members and has relocated its MLAs to Hyderabad. Officially, it was stated that the MLAs visited Hyderabad to meet Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy. News agencies reported that the MLAs are expected to remain in Hyderabad until February 11.
While the political landscape in Telangana renders Hyderabad a Congress stronghold, the resort politics surrounding the MLAs has sparked discussions across the political spectrum.
Telangana BJP leader Rachana Reddy criticised the expenditure of Telangana's resources to protect Congress MLAs. However, Congress leaders clarified that the party is bearing the expenses of the resort stays.
While the Congress stronghold in Telangana provides a safe haven for the MLAs, the resort politics underline the intense political maneuvering underway.
Bihar BJP leaders expressed confidence in the NDA's ability to secure victory in the floor test without needing additional numbers. However, they cautioned that any defections from the Congress camp could demoralise the opposition.

Notably, three Bihar Congress MLAs did not join their colleagues in Hyderabad, citing prior commitments in their constituencies. Siddharth Saurav, one of the MLAs, stated that he had matters to attend to in his constituency of the Bikram (Patna) Assembly.
