The Jharkhand Petroleum Dealers Association announced a statewide closure of petrol pumps on September 2, citing unresolved issues regarding dealer commissions and rising operational costs. Dealers Association President Ashok Singh highlighted that dealer commissions have not been revised since 2017, despite the increasing oil prices, inflation and higher operating expenses.
The Jharkhand Petroleum Dealers Association urged the state government to reduce VAT, stating that Jharkhand's higher VAT rates have negatively impacted sales compared to other states. The association is calling for the abolition of VAT return requirements, following Bihar's mode.
Jharkhand Petrol Pump Closed: Jharkhand Petroleum Dealers Association Ashok Singh raised concerns about the arbitrary behaviour of oil company officials and ongoing issues at pollution testing centres and oil depots. In response to these challenges, the association decided to submit a memorandum to the Governor, demanding an increase in dealer margins.

In a symbolic protest, dealers and pump workers will wear black badges leading up to the September 2 closure. If their demands remain unmet, about 1,600 petrol pumps across the state will be shut down for the day. Additionally, dealers from various districts plan to present memorandums to their local MLAs and MPs.

Dealers Association Vice President, Vineet Lal, said that the central and state governments were informed about their demands several times but no initiative has been taken to resolve their concerns. Their protest will continue until September 1, with a warning that all petrol pumps will be closed on September 2 if their demands are not addressed.
