J-K Weather: The Meteorological Department issued a warning today about heavy rain, snowfall, and thunderstorms in the upper levels of Kashmir division and the Pirpanjal range of Jammu division on April 18–20. The activity is expected to peak from the evening of April 18 to the late night of April 19.

According to the report, unfavourable weather conditions might cause disruptions of surface transport, such as the Jammu-Srinagar and Srinagar-Leh National Highways and other important routes in the middle and upper regions of J&K.

An active western disturbance is expected to impact Jammu & Kashmir and surrounding regions starting on April 18, 2025, according to a warning sent to the Divisional Commissioners of both Jammu and Kashmir by the Meteorological Centre Srinagar.

According to the alert, widespread light to moderate rain and snow (at higher elevations) are anticipated in J&K from April 18 to April 20 (evening, 2025), with the highest activity occurring from April 18 to April 19 late at night.

According to the advisory, the aforementioned system is likely to bring with it thunderstorms, lightning, hailstorms, and strong winds of the order of 40–50 mph with gusts up to 60–70 KMPH over the Pirpanjal Range of Jammu Division and the middle and higher reaches of Kashmir Division (Anantnag–Pahalgam, Kulgam, Sinthan Pass, Shupiyan, Pir Ki Gali, Sonamarg–Zojila, Bandipora-Razdan Pass, Gulmarg, and Kupwara-Sadhna Pass).

Owing to the weather conditions, the department has alerted of a risk of mudslides, landslides, and stonefall across the susceptible terrain.

They recommended that farmers halt all agricultural activities from April 18, 2025, until the afternoon of April 21, 2025.
