JE News Desk: Justice Sunita Agarwal was sworn in as the 29th Chief Justice of Gujarat High Court on Sunday by Governor Acharya Devvrat. The swearing-in ceremony was attended by Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, Law Minister Rushikesh Patel, Speaker of Gujarat Assembly Shankar Chaudhary, and Gandhinagar Mayor Hitesh Makwana.

Earlier on July 5, the Supreme Court collegium proposed the appointment of Justice Agrawal as the Chief Justice of Gujarat High Court. The apex court also stated that she would be the only chief justice of a High Court, as there is no woman among the chief justices of the high courts of the country, as reported by news agency PTI.

Before her appointment, Justice Sonia Gokani was the Chief Justice of the Gujarat High Court for a few days till her retirement on February 23, 2023. Following her retirement, Justice J Desai was serving as the acting Chief Justice.

ALL About Justice Sunita Agarwal

Justice Sunita Agarwal was born on April 30, 1966. She has previously served as the former Judge of the Allahabad High Court.

She graduated in law from Awadh University in the year 1989. She was appointed as an advocate on December 16, 1990, and practised on the civil side at Allahabad High Court.

According to a brief profile uploaded on the Gujarat High Court website, he was elevated as Additional Judge of Allahabad High Court on November 21, 2011, and then took oath as Permanent Judge of Allahabad High Court on August 6, 2013.
